The Ukulele Club continues to be very popular, well supported and the membership is still growing.
Last Sunday, 28th May 2017, a group from the club played its third GIG, this time at the Heathercroft Nursing Home on Longbarn Lane. Heathercroft specialises in care for elderly people and those suffering dementia and Altzeimer’s. The repertoire of songs was carefully selected and the Heathercroft residents enthusiastically joined in the singing and even indulged in a bit of dancing. It was great to see them enjoying the performance.
Undoubtedly there will be more gigs in the future, which is one of the reasons the Ukulele Club has now changed it’s name to THE D’UKES OF LONGBARN. This gives the club more of an identity and also reflects the progress that the players and singers have made. Remember, the vast majority of the members had never played a musical instrument before the end of January 2017, but now they feel confident in their abilities to the point where they are happy to perform in public and to do their bit to enrich the lives of others in the community, particularly the residents of care homes etc. Well done D’UKES.
Brian Foster, a regular D’UKE, designed the logo which will soon feature on Club t-shirts.
