This year’s competition to grow the tallest Sunflower was won by Mary Lawrinson who’s flower reached a massive 9′ 4″ by “the day of judgement”.  (See right).

There were a good number of entries, with a wide range of heights achieved and it got very competitive towards the end.

Why not have a go in next year’s comp.  Sunflowers are not difficult to grow and the competition is a good bit of fun for all ages.  You might even have your own competition within your family, as well as entering your blooms in LRA’s.

You’ll also end up with an ample supply of Sunflower seeds with which you can feed our garden birds.

Here is an assortment of photos from other entries.
