Great Start for the Ukulele Club

The launch, and first meeting, of the LRA Ukulele Club took place on Friday 19th January.

A “good time was had by all” and ended with many smiling faces.  Something of another success for LRA.

The turnout was excellent, with close to 30 people (mostly players but with a few singers) attending.  The youngest member was 12 years old.  It would be indelicate to explore the age of the oldest person there.

Everyone was so enthusiastic, and worked very hard.  The session started with the assumption that members had never before touched a ukulele, or other musical instrument, and ended with everyone having played and sung 3 songs.  Yes, 3 songs (Achy Breaky Heart, Jambalya and Singin in the Rain).  Singing in the rain was a treat.

After this “first night”, we are looking at a new vibrant, fun club.

The next outing of the Ukulele Club is at 7:30pm, 26th January 2017, in the lounge of Padgate Village Club.  We will be joined by a party of 6 from the Ukulele Club of the University of the Third Age (U3A), who will lead us through a play and sing-along from their repertoire.  U3A has been very helpful in our starting up our club and we thank them for their on-going support.  The event can be enjoyed by anyone, not just members of the Ukulele Club.  Anyone who fancies a fun evening of sing-along is more than welcome.  Admission is by FREE ticket.  If you haven’t already got yours, ring 01925 823010.
