Friday night’s (3/11/17) Firework Display was SPECTACULAR.  (Our photos below can’t do it justice. If you can, take a look at the two videos on Longbarn Community & Chat (Facebook), posted by Jayne Vero.  Together they cover the whole display and they are excellent.  Good stuff Jayne.)

Some of the feedback (taken from Longbarn Community & Chat) gives an idea of how well the evening went:

  • Thank you LRA for the wonderful firework display last night
  • Kids loved it last night thank you to all who organised it.
  • Fantastic night at Longbarn fireworks tonight you did all Longbarn residents proud x
  • Fantastic evening.
  • Absolutely amazing fireworks tonight! Really impressed and a fab night! Thank you for all you do for our community xxx

The children’ fair was very popular with the kids loving the rides and slide, a good, new feature.

The burgers, hot dogs and drinks were so good, and in such demand, that eventually the supplies ran out!  Sorry to the few who feel they missed out.  Learning from experience.

The firework display itself was absolutely awesome, with a cheeky, momentary lull in the middle, which was then followed by a gob-smacking crescendo to finish.  Can’t praise it too highly.

Ooh AahIt is estimated that just over 1,000 people came to our community event.  Thanks to “the weather gods” who, this year, were co-operative.

£1,827 (gross) was raised from “the gate” and generous donations, and from the sale of food and drink. It has to be remembered that this was not all profit, the fireworks alone cost close to £1,000,  but the receipts mean LRA can run the event again in 2018.  HURRAY.

LRA sincerely wants to thank everyone who came along to support the event and make the night an outstanding success.  The atmosphere was great, the kids were having fun and there were no problems.  LRA is particularly grateful for the co-operation of the crowd in observing “the site rules”; no alcohol, no-smoking, no personal fireworks or sparklers.  Without the rules, the event could not go ahead.  They are there to keep everyone, especially the youngsters, safe and sound.

The whole thing could not have taken place without all the efforts of the volunteers from right across the Longbarn estate and from the generous support of neighbouring organisations.  So LRA wants to go on record to thank:-

  • Greencore for the supply of Burgers, onions, sauces etc and sending staff to cook for us, the food was first class and the Greencore staff cooked their socks off (no socks were served though!).
  • Longbarn residents who:-
  • Manned the stalls (selling the burgers, baking the cakes for the Cakes & Drinks stall).
  • Served as stewards to make sure all went well on the site
  • (Especially) the residents who trained (in their own time) and set off the Fireworks
  • Those who have been training in First Aid (particularly burns) to be on hand in case of a problem.
  • Manned the DJ and public address station.
  • Andrew and the Fairground Staff.
  • New Horizons AP School for, once again, the loan of their playing field and other facilities on the night.  A big thanks to the Caretaker who is always very helpful.

Well done LRA and Longbarn together.  I’m already looking forward to next year’s spectacular.
