Re the Blaze at the Bayleaf (Tuesday 28/03/2017)

Well what a night that was.  Here is a little resume of the events of last night and a few photos that you may not have seen.  From these it’s easy to judge the devastation and danger to the nearby homes.

Thank goodness no one was hurt and a great big thanks to the Fire Service.  It takes an event like that to remind you how valuable the Service is.  Local residents were quoted as saying “We can’t thank the fire crews enough who have been in attendance all evening and have prevented the fire spreading to trees and nearby properties

Smoke from the fire could be seen from all over the town shortly after it broke out.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the Bayleaf shortly after 6pm.

Fire crews attended from as far away as Chester and Alsager.

A large number of appliances, one estimate had it at close to ten, including an aerial appliance, had to be deployed to deal with the blaze.

An engine had to be dispatched to Carpenter Grove, which backs on to the affected site, in order to cool down adjacent properties which were overheating.

Roads, including Harpers Road and Station Road, had to be closed and residents were advised the keep windows closed due to fumes.

Firefighters, some wearing breathing apparatus, fought the fierce blaze using main jets to fight the fire.  Relief crews had to be brought in to take over from those who had been on site since the start of the incident.
