Have you seen the array of superb sunflowers around Longbarn this summer?

The take up of the Sunflower Competition challenge to grow the tallest sunflower has been really good.

The winner, officially measured at a magnificent 8 feet 10 inches, was grown in Guildford Close.

 In fact, the green-fingered residents in Guilford Close grew several “giants”.

 While the competition is for the tallest sunflower, one had to wonder whether there should be a category for the plant with the biggest head!  There were some whoppers.

 There were also some quite delicate looking flowers and a range of multi-headed blooms which gave a stunning burst of colour.
