At the invitation of the Environment Agency and Greencore two members of LRA joined them on a walk around the site to get a first-hand update on the building progress and to discuss a noise issue that LRA had already reported to them. The following notes are to help keep residents informed and up to date with the latest position.
Building Progress
Because of delays, including the bad weather we have all experienced and the discovery of a large amount of industrial debris, buried and left by previous occupants of the site, the expected completion of the work and the grand opening of the new plant has had to be put back to November.
The new Odour Abatement system has been largely successful in controlling the emission of the smells, but it is still under regular review with the manufacturers for further adjustments and checks are ongoing.
There are still a small number of piles still to be driven into the ground but Greencore expects this to be completed within the next two weeks.
Noise (other than from the building)
Noise levels at the site are bound by planning requirements and within its Environmental Permit and we were assured the Company is committed to putting in sustainable and resolute solutions.
LRA had passed on to Greencore and the Environment Agency, reports of a new and worrying noise coming from the site. The noise is a sustained drone, not unfamiliar to that we get from the motorway and tends to be most noticeable at night and other quiet times.
At the end of the build, tests will be carried out to ensure that the plant is operating within the limits that were defined in the planning permission and any problems identified will be addressed. In the meantime, Greencore are investigating two possible sources of the drone, that they have identified, and will sort them as necessary.
A number of known generators of drone-type noise are due to be relocated as part of the re-design but cannot be moved yet as that relies on other work which still has to be completed.
The contact numbers for reporting issues remain:

LRA will continue to keep members updated.
