The weather gods weren’t good to us for our second Community Fun Day on Saturday 20 May 2017 (for the second year running!!). However, despite the showers a good time was had by everyone who attended and can be considered a success again (Many, many thanks to everyone who helped stage the event and to the visitors who supported “the cause”).
There was a wide variety of entertainments and stalls.
Hawkeye Falconry put on a great display. They showed a fabulous variety of birds which all looked magnificent. Some of the lucky youngsters got to hold birds. You could see from the expressions on their faces and in their eyes that found it awesome to handle such delightful creatures. Their memories will last a long time, no doubt.
The Earl of Stamford Morris Dancers gave us a taste of “olde England” with their performances of traditional dances and gave lessons to the willing volunteers. The music, dances and costumes (including hankies and serious looking sticks) took us back to the days of the village green.
Trinity Girls Brass Band braved the elements in the best tradition of “the show must go on” to entertain us with the wonderful sound.
Our very own Longbarn Ukulele Club joined in the fun to play a sing “al fresco” for us.
There were many games and stalls offering things to buy. Others provided food and drinks, including ice cream, popcorn, candyfloss, cakes and hot Dogs and Burgers (thanks to Greencore).
There was a Raffle for a Hamper (won by Steve) and a Raffle (free with the Programme) for a £25 Homebase Voucher (won by ticket number 23).
DESPITE the poor weather LRA received £850 gross takings which should stand us in good stead for next year’s event.
Reminder – MUST ORDER GOOD WEATHER NEXT YEAR.
